Term's(G-J)

Terms-G
..
Ground
A ground is often used as the common point or a particular reference in a circuit.
Gain
Increase in voltage, current and/or power.
Gamma rays
High frequency electromagnetic radiation from radio active particles.
Ganged
Mechanical coupling of two or more capacitors or switches.
Gas
Gases are produced by heating a liquid beyond its boiling point.
Gun of Electrons
Electron gun used in Cathode Ray Tube's
Geiger counter
Device used to detect nuclear particles.
Generator
Device used to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy.
Giga
Metric prefix for 1 billion (109)

Terms-H
..
Half wave rectifier
A rectifier which  converts AC to pulsating DC by removing either the negative or the positive alternation of each i/p AC cycle.
Harmonic
Sine wave that is multiple of a fundamental frequency.
High-pass filter
A tuned circuit which disallows Frequencies below the cut-off frequency
Holography
The science dealing with three-dimensional optical recording.
Horizontally polarized wave
Electromagnetic wave that has the electric field in the horizontal plane.
Hybrid circuit
Circuit that joins two technologies (passive and active components) onto one microelectronic circuit.
Hysteresis
In respect to  Schmitt Trigger circuits, it is  the difference between the upper and lower trigger points

Terms-I
..
IC
Abbreviation for "integrated circuit"

Internal resistance
Every source has some resistance in series with the o/p current. When current is drained from the source power is lost due to the voltage drop across the internal resistance.

Intrinsic material
A semiconductor material with electrical properties.

Inverting amplifier
An amplifier that has a 180° phase shift from input to output.

Inverting input
In an operational amplifier (op amp) the input that is marked with a minus sign. A signal given at the inverting input will be given 180° phase shift between input and output.

Ion -(Positive & Negative)
An atom with fewer electrons in orbit than the number of protons in the nucleus is a positive ion. An atom with a greater number of electrons in orbit than the number of protons in the nucleus is a negative ion.

Ionized
Atoms become ionized when they gain or lose a valence electron.

IGFET
Insulated gate field effect transistor. Another name for a "
MOSFET."

Impedance
Measured in ohms it is the opposition to the flow of current offered by a circuit. Impedance consists of the vector sum of resistance and reactance.

Impedance coupling
Coupling of two signal amplifier circuits

Terms-J
..
JUNCTION BOX.
Junction boxes are metal or plastic, measuring 2 1/2 inches or 3 1/2 inches deep and it's where wires  live when they are combined together.

Junction diode.
A semiconductor diode in which the rectifying properties takes place at a junction between the n-type and p-type

Jack
Socket or connector into which a plug may be inserted.

JFET
Abbreviation for "Junction field effect transistor".

Joule
The unit of work and energy.

Junction
The area where the p-type material and n-type material meet in a semiconductor
